Dear Parents, Coaches, Athletes, Officials and Spectators,
The following is helpful or important information pertaining to the 2017 Xcel State Gymnastics Championships.
Again, Erie Gymnastics & Team Lightning are proud to be the host of this Prestigious Competition. We welcome you all to Erie, and hope you enjoy both the Competition and your stay! This weekend, we welcome over 700 athletes from over 65 quality USA Gymnastics Clubs from all parts of Pennsylvania who have qualified for this event. We wish all of the competitors the best of luck at this Competition!
Parents & Athletes:
* The Competition is hosted at the Bayfront Convention Center (not our gym ~ to which at least a few show up every time we host one of these competitions). This is a link for the directions - Bayfront Convention Center.
* There is ample Free Parking at the Convention Center, as well as Parking Garages for both the Bayfront Sheraton and the Bayfront Marriott.
*. Adult Admission is $10.00 // Child (age 3-17) $6.00 // (under age 3 is free) // Multi-day Pass - Adult - $15 / Child - $10.
* Concessions will be available at the Competition - provided by the Bayfront Convention Center.
* Vendors will be present offering unique & commemorative items for the Meet, including Action Shots Photography / Fine Designs T-Shirts / GK Leotards / Flowers / and much more.
* Scallywags Pirate Ship will be docked (weather dependant) right outside the Convention Center - Sheraton Docks - offering fun and memorable 90 minute tours of Presque Isle Bay & some Lake Erie Pirate Adventures. This is fun and scenic for all ages!
* Part of the experience in attending the State Championships is attending with your Family, Friends, Team-mates, and visiting a new city. Erie has a lot to do in the Spring, and we have a whole page devoted to just some of the things to do while you are visiting our city. Our city is extremely excited to assist in hosting this event, and much of the encouragement and assistance has been done by the Erie Sports Commission (a division of Visit Erie). COACHES:
* This is a USA Gymnastics Sanctioned Event. ALL Coaches must present proof of their Professional Memberships and ALL credentials must be current including Safety Cert. and Background Clearances. Absolutely NO Non-Credentialed
* Due to the fact that there are over 65 potential coaches per Flight, 20 meet officials, 25 EGC Volunteers and 150 gymnasts... on the floor, absolutely no team-mates, gymnasts from upcoming or completes sessions, parents... permitted on the floor.
* MEET FORMAT: Non-Traditional - Capital Cup Format. This format includes a "separate Warm-up Gym" and then a Competitive area.
* EQUIPMENT: Equipment is provided by Sports Equipment Specialists - AAI Bars & Beams - ample boards & matting will be present.
* ENTRIES: All entries should have been entered by now, and all late entries are subject to a late fee. All entries had or have to be made exclusively through Meetmaker.com. This also includes all "Scratches" in order to receive any refunds. Please Double Check that ALL entry information for your athletes is correct on BOTH the USAG website and Meetmaker.com. EGC is NOT responsible for data entry errors. All of our data comes directly from these 2 sites.
* AGE GROUPS: Conveniently, the PA Board permitted us to use the "Age of the Meet" Determination for separating Age Groups. This Determination uses "The Age the athletes will be as of their culminating meet - using the date of this State Championship - May 7th. This is the most convenient and easiest means to determine the athletes age. All of the sessions seemed to work out very well without 'splitting' ages into separate Times - WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ... Gold Flights 2 & 3, where there were too many 12 year olds to put into 1 Flight. The 12 year old Gold athletes were subdivided into 12 Junior & 12 Seniors. Gold 12 Juniors are defined as Age between 12/20/2004 - 5/7/2005 and should report to Flight 2. Gold 12 Seniors are defined as Age between 5/8/2004 - 12/19/2004 and should report to Flight 3. All other Age Groups are easy to determine and should report to their appropriate Flight.
* AWARDS: As per USAG Xcel Rules, athletes will be awarded Medals to 40% of the pre-determined Age Groups. Team Awards will follow the last Flight of Competitors in that Level and be awarded 50%. Age Groups were uploaded to Meetmaker, the PA Gymnastics website, and available at the bottom of this page.
* TEAM AWARDS: Team Awards are based on top 3 scores per event. There will be separate awards for Silver Team / Gold Team / Platinum Team / Diamond Team.
* PROPER ATTIRE: We will use all the "Pomp & Circumstance" for this State Championship. Athletes must remain in Competitive attire throughout the entirety of the competition and throughout the Awards Ceremony. Coaches are also reminded to check the PA Gymnastics website for proper attire pertaining to Jeans, Hats.... A little leeway will be given for Pirate wear in that this is the "theme" of the Competition.
* SCORES: We have Meet Scoring Services who have digital display boards posting scores immediately after they are entered by the Judging Panels. Scores will also be uploaded to Meet Scores Online.
